Full Day Tour
 We
pick you up from your hotel at 8 AM for a scenic one
hour drive through the Cordillera Central mountain range.
A short walk brings you to our hand-built wooden cabin,
where hot coffee, fresh-baked cornbread, and fresh-squeezed
orange juice are waiting for you. You will then begin
an unforgettable three-hour hike into the deepest part
of the primary cloud forest. When you get back, a hot
lunch of "Costa Rican home cooking" is waiting for you;
chicken, rice, beans, chayote squash vegetable hash,
and handmade tortillas. After lunch you will go for
a bird-watching hike on new trails near the cabin, which
go through the secondary growth forest where it is easiest
to spot hummingbirds, mountain robins, emerald toucanets,
and if you are lucky, the resplendent quetzal. Then
back to the cabin for coffee and more fresh bread, before
hiking back to the van for the ride home. You will be
back at your hotel in time for dinner.

Bird-Watchers' Overnight Special
All bird watchers know that the best times to
visit any nature preserve are dawn and dusk, when
the forest comes alive with birds. Here is a special
tour designed to give you the unforgettable experience
of waking up to the cries of quetzals and mountain
robins in the midst of the Costa Rican cloud forest.
We pick you up from your hotel at 1 PM, and arrive
at Finca Magnolia Cloud Forest at 2:30. A short
walk brings you to our rustic cabin high in the
mountains above Cartago. Coffee and fresh-baked
bread are waiting for you on arrival.

As dusk begins, around 4 PM, you head
off for an hour and a half hike along the edges
of the forest, where visibility is best for bird
watching. Then at sunset back to the cabin, for
a hearty dinner. Afterwards you can join your host
on a night hike to enjoy the stars, or relax in
the cabin with a fire in the cast-iron stove. You
will sleep in our wood-lined guest room, with a
private hot-water bath. Your host will lead you
on a one hour nature walk at dawn the next day.
A generous Costa Rican breakfast will be waiting
for you on return. Afterwards, you head off for
a three hour hike into the deepest primary forest.
Then you head down the mountain and on to your next
hotel destination, exhausted and renewed by your
cloud forest adventure. |

Preserve with a visit to one of these favorite
sights around Cartago. Climb the heights of the
Irazu Volcano. Visit the gorgeous Lankester Botanical
Gardens outside Cartago, then tour the scenic
Orosi valley, stopping at the unique "Casa del
Sonador" woodcarving workshop and the colonial
church of Orosi. Or visit a working coffee farm
(taste a fresh-picked coffee-berry for yourself)
and the apple orchards of picturesque Copey de
